Civil Procedure Revolution: The New Rules for Witness Statements

OVERVIEW

The new practice direction on witness statements came into force on 6th April 2021 for claims in the Business and Property Courts.  It introduces significant changes to the preparation and purpose of witness statements that will affect all commercial litigators.

In this session, the Quadrant team explain what practitioners need to know, including the key features of the new practice direction, the statement of best practice, how statements should be prepared to be compliant, what potential problems may arise and how to address them. They also debate the pros and cons of the new changes.

Our panel is led by John Kimbell KC, who is a deputy high court judge and member of the working group on witness evidence reform. John is joined by Emily Saunderson, Simon Oakes and Joseph England.
