Since his first appointment in 1983 (as an umpire appointed by two LMAA arbitrators), Michael has had several hundred appointments, and had issued hundreds of awards.  These cover a wide spectrum of commercial disputes.  Many of them have had a maritime flavour: charterparty disputes, cargo claims, general average, ship collisions, salvage, wreck removal and so on.  But he has also been appointed in disputes relating to sale of goods, agency and other general commercial issues.  He has experience of acting as umpire, chairman, third arbitrator, sole arbitrator and wingman.
